You still receive a positive result if you have a faint line on a pregnancy test. However, you may be very early into your pregnancy, so your hCG levels aren’t high enough to produce a strong result.
Be sure to distinguish between a faint line and an evaporation line. A faint line can still mean you’re pregnant, while an evaporation line simply means your urine has evaporated from the test.
Take Another Pregnancy Test
If you’re not confident in the results or timing of your pregnancy test that resulted in a faint line, go ahead and take another test right away, and make sure you are looking at the results immediately.
You can also wait a few days more and give your body time to produce more hCG, the hormone pregnancy tests are designed to detect.
At Women’s Clinic, we offer free, lab-quality pregnancy tests and can help determine the best time to test and interpret the results.
Schedule an Ultrasound
If you’re unsure about your pregnancy test results, you can also schedule a free viability ultrasound at our center, giving details confirming your pregnancy. Women’s Clinic provides ultrasounds for women who are considering abortion or unsure of which decision they’ll make.
An ultrasound can reveal:
- Gestational age: You can learn how far along the pregnancy is.
- Pregnancy location: Pregnancies should be located in the uterus. If your pregnancy is outside the uterus, it is ectopic and will require immediate medical intervention.
- Viability: Up to 26% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, so an ultrasound can also confirm whether or not your pregnancy is viable (it is progressing and there is a heartbeat).
Ask us if a viability ultrasound could be right for you.
Schedule an Options Consultation
Once you have confirmed your pregnancy, you can consider your options: parenting, abortion, and adoption. Our center provides a safe, compassionate space to ask questions about each option and choose what works best for you.
